about

I learned this story from a Margaret Read MacDonald collection. It's based on a Ukranian folktale. It's a variant of the "child captured in a bag to be eaten" plot, which is common in European folktales, and also appears in some stories Brian used to tell as well as a story I tell, "Buchettino." I got sick of the stranger-danger message of the genre, and while this story still retains a bit of that, I also tried to humanize (dragonize?) the villain and give a parallel family for listeners to sympathize with. Telesik needs to stay with his family-- the dragon children need a pet-- how can we solve this problem, narratively?

Featuring Chipmunk Elia and Chipmunk Zeev as the voice of the dragon children, and Chipmunk Andrea as the voice of the Little Goose.
